on other members user pages and profiles there is a link called friend me clicking ask that user if they want to be your friend. Once they confirm your avatars will appear in each others friends lists.
If you want to try it out, try it out on Drawde83.
[edit] Send gifts
if you enter your friends list one of the links for each friend is send a gift. This allows you to send them a little message.
[edit] Welcome new members
when new members join we like it if they get welcomed. This serves two purposes.
- They get some useful links to get started on the wiki
- They meet someone they can talk to on the wiki
so when someone turns up on the wiki add {{subst:welc}}--~~~~ to their talk page.
