[edit] CAN card

Philralph:
TALK - 17:31, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
Can you use / adapt what you set up on w:c:javascript:project:CAN? Then could be 'slotted in' here on WikiSocial:CAN and Society Gardens CAN? Philralph @sca21 17:31, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

I'm glad you like it.  :) And I'd be glad to import it over here; I just need to study your current templates to get a feel for what I don't need to duplicate.

By the way, I have a few questions...

  • When should be used as opposed to ? They both seem to be generic site icons for admins. (Or is the chess square for a wiki I haven't found yet?)
for users who might describe themselves as founders or hosts and probably have bureaucrat rights, for other admins. Maybe this is an unnecessary distinction - what do you think?
I somewhat understand the reason behind the distinction, but I don't know what important difference would justify it. The only reason I see for distinguishing admins at all is to give a contact person(s) for the wiki. Founders may be figureheads/spokespersons more than other admins; I wouldn't know about hosts. Maybe we should use a different icon for the figurehead(s), regardless of technical position?
  • What do you think of using instead of for talk links?
Yes, fine
  • Should the images you currently use be moved to more descriptive names?
Yes, good idea
I'm on it.
  • What harm can a CAN card's border inflict on CAN pages?
Not aware of any problems
Oh, I see that I asked the wrong author... My bad.

[edit] Categories

What do you mean by "gratuitous"? Robin Patterson 06:07, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

Context. The three categories I removed were, in my estimation, irrelevant to the page. Put another way, the page was (or, as with the last one, I assumed it was) the odd one out.
Category:Activities contains pages which are activities; genealogy (but not that page) is an activity mainly because it has a wiki, and that's what Category:Wikis is for. It could also be said to be an activity because it's a study/science, but that's not what WikiSocial is about.
Category:Interests is a subcategory of Category:Userbox, so it should only contain templates which document users' interests, and indeed it does (except a user page which I'm debugging to find out why it's included).
My least defensible removal was that of Category:Society Gardens, which contains precedent for wikis being categorized under it. I didn't check for such because I think it should only be applied to the most strictly related pages. If you put this category back on the page, I won't contest it directly, but I will probably try to get the relevant policy changed either way. --Jesdisciple (talk) 06:36, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
